SHAWNEE KILGORE
Let That Songbird Go Photography

ABOUT
I’ve been playing guitar and writing songs since I was 14 and somewhere along the way I molded that strange and beautiful journey into a career. I got a camera when I got a cat and, as with music, discovered a world bigger (and smaller) than I ever imagined.

The joy of photography is unparalleled for me. I can feel the same kind of rush that I do with songwriting, but photography can sometimes feel more pure. It’s less of a struggle to get to “the heart of the matter” or “get it right.” There’s no way for ego to really enter into it. The picture was already there. I just noticed it.

Songwriting can feel limiting at times. I'd like to say that no two people can say the same thing in exactly the same way, but they do. A lot, in fact. As a writer I strive to say things in a way that no one else has. In photography I want to see things in a way that no one else has.

I don't do fancy. I assure you I don't know how! People do incredible things with photoshop but that path didn't felt right for me. As much as I thought I needed to learn it to be a real professional it felt more like a distraction than a tool. I'm more interested in the moment as it was rather than what it could be. Sometimes it's dumb luck, sometimes relentless patience, often both. That's life.

Thank you for visiting my world.
